
Take two modern day girls of questionable intelligence and add the prospect of fame through becoming a model and you have the plot of this play. Whether it was worth the effort of writing the play in the first place is solely the opinion of the audience that views the play. In this case the audience at the Hull Truck theatre thought it was, as they reacted to the comedy written into the script. Whether its everyones cup of tea is open to question. Its one of those plays you have to try and then make your own opinion.
So what is it all about? Natasha, with a smile always about to break on her face, is played by Danielle Williams and Martine, played by Natalie Blades, showing signs of acting roles to come, turn up at the photographic studio of Connor played by Graham Martin with their wheelchair bound grandad, played by Eddie Caswell. The language is sometime coarse, but typical of the time in which we live, but has some funny lines mixed in it. The well worn story of girls seeking fame, and in one case a man, run through the play as Connor goes about his business with self interest always number one in his mind. The plot has the inevitable ending of disappointment and frustration with a sense of having achieved nothing.
Gordon Steels new play is typical of todays younger generation and his direction is adequate for the play which the mainly young audience seemed to enjoy, but... © BA
