Dressed for confusion

That man Shakespeare is always good for a laugh and that proved so with Barrie Rutter's direction of Comedy of Errors. It is those twins again getting everyone in a muddle, but this time there are two sets, the masters and their servants. The women they come in contact with get in a right old state and misunderstandings make the comedy.

It is nice to see women dressed in nice clothes and here we have two dresses that are well worth a second glance. We have Zoe Lambert making a good job of her character Adriana with a delicate yellow creation and Claire Storey as Luciana in a delicate pink number — Refreshing. They are confused by Andrew Cryer, giving a performance as near to the original as it is possible to guess it was, as Antipholus of Syracuse and his man Dromio played with much comedy skill by Conrad Nelson, who also wrote the music — their conversation about a kitchen wench called "Fat Nell" was priceless. It was almost impossible to tell the other twins, played by Conor Ryan as the master and Simon Holland Roberts as the servant, from their doppel-gangers for the portrayal almost matched. They were backed up by a cast and musicians who gave great delight to the audience.

For a taste of Shakespeare that is delivered in language that you can understand by a very alive company this is for you. All done in the very best taste in modern clothes. Great fun. © BA
