REVIEWS
Each member of the male actors had a gimmick which was the focal point of this show. Barry Rutter was looking for something different so he looked around and the Greek story by Aristophanes of Lystistrata was not hard to find, and so it was that Blake Morrison wrote this play about a group of women who withdraw their favours to the men in order to stop them making weapons to kill people. Did it work? Well you will have to go and see Lisas Sex Strike if it comes your way and find out. It gave fun to most of the audience, but may have offended some. This is Rutter wanting to fill the theatre, which he does.
Lisas Sex Strike is at the Round in Scarborough from the 20th November to the 24th of November, 2007. This is a No Smoking theatre. Box Office Telephone: 01723 370541
The play starts off with what is a six aside football match between men and women. In the second half the men cast members play with the women in the audience. All the cast play their part with great aptitude and keep the show rolling along at a fast rate. Conrad Nelson gives direction and musical composition with the aid of musical direction by Rebekah Hughes. The whole comes together with a little magic, dance to compliment the acting and singing.
Actors like their pictures displayed if they have done a good job, but alas again none were sent by the Theatres Press Department so none can be displayed here a pity.
A lot of people will have gone home well satisfied with their evening at the theatre and wondering what Mr Rutter will have in store for them next time. Comedy for today. © BA
