It was a delight to experience the fare served up at the Studio theatre of the York Theatre Royal by two very accomplished actors as the showed the audience Harold Pinter's brilliant piece of writing, The Dumb Waiter. The play is worth travelling miles to see and is far superior to what is being served up in the West end of London under the name drama.
You will be sucked into the world of these two characters as they converse and are bemused by what is happening to them, but they never quite realise what. Eamonn Fleming and Robert Pickavance give masterful performances of their characters, Gus and Ben. Two low life characters that are hired to do a job, but given no information as to what it is. They find themselves in a room with a dumb waiter and speaking tube, a device for transporting food and drink from one place to another. This device turns out to be the third character in the play, enticing them to interact with it, but never letting them know what it is up to.
